Zero waste travel essentials and conveniences

Eco

Here, I am revealing my favourite travel hacks for zero-waste choices on the go. This includes sustainable compact toiletries, multi-purpose food storage and important comforts.

Thermos container

I genuinely enjoy using this Thermos container because along with holding food and a spoon, it also could just be used as a drink bottle on a super minimalist day.

In my most recent night away, I packed dry ingredients for porridge into my Thermos container. I could heat the ingredients on the stove and then eat the hot meal in a bowl or bring it in the container when exploring. If you want to copy this breakfast and won’t have a kitchen, just pour a fortified plant-based milk into the stainless steel cup and then you have a ‘muesli.’

“Panda” PATCH strips

I love these bandages for two reasons. Firstly (and obviously), they are handy for small wounds. Of course. But here’s an important hack. I empty the container and store my reusable safety razor in it. This works fine if the packaging is relatively new and if I keep it snug in my luggage. Plus, that cylindrical tube can stand up. So it doubles as a stand to hold the razor in the bathroom.

Soap bars

I prefer a trio of soap bars - hand wash, facial cleanser and shampoo. That’s enough for me, especially for a night away. You can also get conditioner bars. I tried using a shampoo bar again tonight and learned a technique. I scrub the bar directly on my hair, instead of foaming it in my hands. That method generates more suds and feels more washed. It feels good!

eBooks

Electronic books are important for equally important diverse reasons. They take up less space and weight than printed books. Save paper! If you can bring a variety of virtual books when travelling, you can feel informed about more wellness concepts on the go. I love how I can search for information about particular foods and mindfulness when looking through the electronic book apps. Help yourself and help the world. It’s all connected.

Are e-books actually zero-waste? I mean, the phone uses power. I will save that question for the experts. All I know is it saves paper. And these options equip us with more knowledge in an efficient way. That’s for sure.
