How to persevere with a project

Do you struggle in finding motivation to continue a project? It could be for yourself or for others. It could be commercial, for study or a passion project. Whatever the purpose, sometimes we need more inner strength to keep going. Here are some ways to stop procrastinating, continue working and focus.

Remember your purpose

It is easier to continue doing something when you have a meaningful purpose to do it. I have been writing on this blog when the following went up and down. My top reason is that I believe in the lifestyle. Maybe I need different ways of presenting the ideas and information. I should peel back the layers and show more vulnerability. But despite the flaws I need to work on, I continue doing this because I care about the cause. I believe in the health, environmental and compassionate benefits of eating plants. I believe we can all make small changes to help the environment. I believe a spiritual life is a necessary journey, as it sustains my own life. I believe in creating for the sake of it because we were made to make. We evolved to create. I believe we sometimes need a simple motivational message or quote - but it goes deeper when applied to a relatable life. I believe a conscious life can be accessible and affordable. These beliefs keep me going.

Know the big plan but focus on a bit at a time

The big picture and broad plan will support the purpose. But it can seem overwhelming. Focus on one step at a time. I would love to get more people contributing to RDL in a way that makes it an authentic community. That can happen later. Right now, I just need to share a bit more of my reality. And a bit more. Also find out what ideas need to be shared more. What people need to know. Bigger wilder things will happen at the right time. That balance, of focusing on each step when knowing the bigger picture, it feels achievable in the present moment.

Pace yourself and avoid burnout

When I am working on anything, I try to look after myself too. We need to nurture our minds and the bodies that house our brains. I feel the most creative when get more sleep than I think I need, eat a variety of whole cooked and raw plants, get fresh air and have healthy conversations with fellow human beings. The basics. That’s when I feel inspired and energised to then create. We can become more able to continue our projects when truly looking after ourselves. Find your own balance between self-care and hustle culture. Do what you need to feel able and avoid burnout.
