Ways to get more value from your eco stuff

Eco

When we realise the importance of choosing plastic-free products when possible, it becomes a significant investment in the planet and our health. Some options may cost more than the plastic versions. We can gain more value from these items by wisely selecting and looking after them.

Affordable eco-household products

Typical zero-waste supplies can be more affordable than expected when we adopt smart shopping habits. Keep an eye out for the discounts on things you definitely need. Compare prices online.

Care for your natural materials

Plastic-free brushes are great. Wooden tools can be maintained better by being stored away from water. Some are made with an end that can be attached to DIY ribbons, hooks, or anything to hang them to dry. Free yourself from the disappointment of a soggy brush by storing it away from moisture as much as possible.

Choose things to last over time

Some reusables will have a longer lifespan than others. I prefer stainless steel pegs instead of wooden ones. I tried wax wraps earlier in my eco-journey, and I didn’t understand how to keep them clean. I hope silicone would be a suitable alternative. I am more likely to bring a stainless steel or Huskee coffee cup on the go. Although glass ones could be all right at a desk, I don’t trust myself to carry them regularly and not drop them.

Second-hand quality reusables

See if anyone is rehoming reusable drink bottles and other supplies. Years ago, I found a great Thermox bottle at an op-shop. Why not?

Minimalist quantities

Ask yourself if you really need the items you are considering buying or acquiring. This rule applies whether you are spending money or not. When we have too much stuff cluttering the home, we can forget what is around us and not notice things around the place. Instead, keep a curated selection of supplies that will add value to your life.
