Are you really OK?
The 9th of September is R U OK Day. In 2021, the day arrives at a time when Australia continues to navigate the various restrictions associated with the pandemic. People have more or less freedom depending on where they live. Aussies could be getting on with life or forced to distance more than ever. Whether the pandemic now impacts an individual or not, life's colourful hurdles can challenge anyone. Let's ask everyone if they are ok.
This year's theme is, "Are they really OK? Ask them today." That is an important point in today's world of social media. Even with gradual movements towards authenticity, many people continue to project idealised images of themselves. We may not always feel brave and vulnerable enough to admit if we're not ok - even in dialogue with our closest trusted friends.
I believe friends need to let each other know they can talk openly if they want. Australian society has became very divided - geographically and in other ways. We need to consciously choose to reconnect however possible. R U OK Day has resources for what to do when someone says they are not ok. There is also a list of resources for when you do not feel ok.
