What to do in a morning at Darby St in Newcastle
Whether visiting Newcastle or settling in as a local, Darby Street provides a calm abundance in a morning.
Community Garden
MUD Landscape Design made the Darby Street Community Garden to be a “sanctuary” for people who are interested in “community, gardening and sustainability.” You can sip a takeaway coffee (ideally in a reusable cup) at this calm corner. Have a look at the aloe vera. Smile with the locals.
Jane, a volunteer, shared the need for a new coordinator in May. Anyone could visit the garden on a bright morning and contact the council about helping to maintain the space.
Relaxation and wellness
Massage on Darby
Unwind with a calming massage. We need to care for ourselves to bring our greatest potential to the world.
Food
Big meal at Goldbergs
I tried their vegan breakfast once, and it was seriously filling. This is a must-try for anyone who wants high-protein food and veggies in the morning.
Muffin at Core Espresso
I adore a hot muffin from Core. I feel quite a peace of mind knowing it is vegan-friendly.
Coffee and more at The Healthy Cocktail
There is a bit of everything for the crunchy locals and visitors. This coffee mug is a cosy way to warm up. The store also includes wraps, snacks, a little bulk section and more.
I like to sit at the little window in that place and see the world going by. It’s a spiritually decorated space to feel reassured and rejuvenated.
See the clothing stores
There’s a bunch of fashion shops on Darby Street. I usually feel satisfied with some Boody basics from the pharmacy paired with skirts and shirts from anywhere. But for those who want more, have a look at the boutiques along this popular path.
Groceries at Harris Farm
What can’t you get at Harris Farm? Although that supermarket chain is also located in other places, the Darby St spot is a convenient one-stop for the locals’ treats.
Buy a second-hand book
Find a wise, informative or mindful read at Cooks Hill Books. They also stock vinyl records.
This list scratched the surface and uncovered my personal favourites. But really, you could easily enjoy a whole morning or even a day at Darby St. What are you waiting for?
