Ways to sneak in more B12

I feel quite conscious of B12 at the moment. Aside from classic supplements, there are other ways to get more of this vitamin.

Please remember, I am not a health professional. I am a vegan crunchy Aussie who learned a few new tricks. But I love to share what I know.

Vegemite

The Salt Reduced Vegemite includes vitamins B6 and B12. I choose this spread because it gives more good stuff.

Nutritional yeast

Vegans use nutritional yeast to give foods a cheesy taste. Stir these flakes into a creamy sauce for an extra boost. You can even make your own dry parmesan-style topping with nooch (as it’s often called), cashews and seasonings.

Fortified plant based milk

I choose So Good because it is inexpensive and fortified. Some other plant based milks also have B12. Remember to read the labels because they vary.

Fortified greens powder

You can get food based powders that include extra vitamins. These can be mixed into particular smoothies or raw snacks, depending on the colour. They don’t feel the same as deliberately taking a supplement capsule. It’s definitely the good sort of sneaky. Biome sells the Eden Healthfoods Superfood Certified Organic Greens Powder (400g). I recently bought a phytoplankton powder that can be added to green smoothies. Have a look online and see what feels right.

There is always more

There are always more food products to discover. Keep an eye out for more foods that contain sneaky B12. Then share what you know!
