The cheap take away food that is good enough for wellness

Based on my personal experience and unqualified understanding of what is healthy, a few take away foods are nourishing enough without too much nasty stuff. You can access tasty comfort foods without compromising your wellbeing or values.

This is important because some people assume that whole plants would be a specialist product from niche stores. They’re actually found in mainstream places too. Some of the classic take away treats are accidentally vegan and plant-based. Even if those labels are not your goal, you can get more veggies in your day (and probably less fatty food) by choosing these delights.

Falafel ‘kebab’ roll with hummus and salad

When you visit a kebab shop, there is a relatively healthy option! Can you believe it? Order a falafel roll. The meal features chickpeas in two different forms – the falafel and the hummus sauce. It can feel quite filling. A fresh raw salad can only make the roll even better. I choose hummus instead of other sauces because it should have less sugar. Yes, the falafels may be fried. But they are the most filling option you will find. And considering most kebab shops are open for longer hours, this could be the best accessible food later in the day.

Bean burrito with vegetables and (ideally brown) rice

Mexican chains are popping up all over the place. These stores are wonderfully convenient. They often have the ingredients ready to assemble, so it’s a faster order compared to other styles. All of the Mexican chains have whole plant ingredients as an option - beans, rice and vegetables. The basic combo is nourishing and can be flavoured as spicy or mild as you prefer. If a brown rice is available, that is a great ideal. But I wouldn’t turn down any plain rice. Beans are important. I prefer a bean meal that has plenty of flavour. That’s why a burrito is so good. With salsa and spices, it should feel interesting enough. This is another wrap that’s usually crammed with vegetables – maybe some a cooked and/or raw. It’s pretty good. If you’re worried about what ingredients in the tortilla bread, choose a burrito bowl instead.

Coffee with soy milk

Ok. This is a drink more than food. But it is worth a mention. I see nothing wrong with a bit of coffee (or more). Soy milk is said to be beneficial. If you feel worried, try an oat or almond milk. I personally trust soy milk the most. Just don’t add extra sugar into the hot drink. But a soy coffee is handy and usually accessible nearly everywhere.

Which take away foods nourish you?

As you can see, whole plants are widely available in mainstream food outlets. You can live your life and nurture your wellness at the same time.
